BIOGRAPHY

Gill White retired as an Occupational Therapist and embarked on a Design Craft degree with De Montfort University at Banbury. After gaining a first, she formed a group “Mixed Bag’ with fellow graduates, creating and exhibiting together in the North Oxfordshire area and beyond.

Gill is an applied conceptual artist. Her work is 3D multi-media, often concerned with political or social issues. It may be wall hung, an installation, site-specific, or may involve a performance.

Much of her work has been made by pulped newspapers, which provide not only the raw material, but is also a source of ideas which emerge during the making process, giving the piece its own individual dynamic.

Domestic Bliss

The jam in these tarts was made by breaking charity-shop vases. The act of smashing the glass reminded me, that I had read in the small print somewhere, that 2 women a week in the UK are killed by their partners.

Meanwhile, the sad death of Baby P, had filled the headlines. His painful life is reflected in the cracked tiles, evoking the darker side of domestic bliss.
